Enhanced protective glass is laminated glass. Testing has shown an improvement of up to 3% in fuel economy in vehicles equipped with laminated glass and Solar (IR) reflecting coating. This is over and above the MPG shown on the showroom sticker, because current CAFE testing doesn’t capture the impact of air-conditioning on fuel economy.
With the help of an available infrared (IR) reflective coating, laminated glass provides several benefits to the interior of vehicles.
- Testing has shown vehicles equipped with laminated glass, parked in the sun with the windows closed, may reduce the effects of solar heat by up to 18°F (10°C) compared to standard tempered glass.
- If equipped with the available infrared (IR) reflective coating, laminated glass reduces interior heat build-up by reflecting up to 60% of heat-creating IR rays. That’s eight times better than standard tempered tinted glass.

Enjoy a Quieter Ride: avoid wind and road noise
Enhanced protective glass is laminated glass, and it provides protection from outside wind and road noise.
The use of laminated glass in the side windows of vehicles has been shown to reduce the interior noise by as much as 3 dB. Laminated glass allows for easier conversation and more enjoyable use of entertainment equipment.
Laminated EPG provides significant acoustical benefits to vehicles with an overall reduction in the weight of the vehicle compared to a single pane tempered glass of equal thickness.
The interlayer in laminated glass helps provide protection from outside wind and road noise, keeping the car interior quieter and more comfortable. This benefit allows auto makers to offer car buyers a vehicle with additional value without significantly increasing the cost of the vehicle.
